I don't know about you other women, but when I walk into a store and see those skinny mannequins with revealing clothing, or even fully dressed, I suddenly feel out of place. Like the store only sells or wants women of this size to shop there. I'm not the true 'average' sized American woman but I'm not super overweight either. Not everyone feels the same when they see skinny mannequins but some do. I applaud the store who introduced this fuller figured mannequin into their store to show that ALL women are beautiful and can wear sexy clothing.
In fact a lot of men on the internet (and real life) say they prefer fuller women then skinny ones. It's because the skinny women look unhealthy and fragile while the fuller women look more natural and strong. Long ago fuller figured women where the ideal sexual image, so what changed? Is it because modeling companies finally figured out they could use Photoshop on the pictures of the girls? I feel this is the case because in my opinion it's a learned behavior mixed in with a natural behavior. Skinny women became sexy and ideal through the media, and when you push something with media for enough years the next generation will find that attractive. It's natural to go after the attractive mate and if you grow up seeing skinny women on TV, movies, magazines, commercials ect then you will learn and think that this is how normal women should look. This is why the media bashes female actresses and singers for gaining a few pounds like Jessica. She used to be skinny with large breasts and wore 'daisy dukes' then she got a bit thicker and was bombarded by the media. I thought she looked a LOT better with some added meat to her.
Mannequins that are full figured are just a start in hopefully changing society and the media into letting the natural beauty of women come back to the sexy spotlight. Too many women have health issues and mental/esteem issues due to how they look.
The comments from this news article taken from a 'social network' are as such:
"Its got to stop, When will fat girls stop misidentifying themselves as curvy/thick/voluptuous. Who told these pigs they look good? I wouldn't mind so much if they went back to their traditional Muumuu outfits instead of the tight jeans/spandex they're now wearing."
This comment scares me. Curvy, thick, and voluptuous does describe a lot of women in the USA, not all but most. Yes some women are too overweight and it's not natural and can damage their health but the ones who are not overweight or endangering their health are all the above. I can already tell you the woman who wrote this comment is either A) super skinny herself due to media pressure and she hates herself for how she used to look or B) she is an egotistical skinny woman who still has self-esteem issues.
Some people are really pissed about this fuller mannequin and say it's promoting obesity in society but if you look at the picture in the article it's not an overweight woman. She is natural and healthy looking (for a plastic figure). Then you have the other people who are super excited about it because they want society to understand and welcome the fuller image.
So what side are you on? Leave a comment of your opinion on this blog. :)
