Steubenville Ohio rape case, whos to blame?

http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/16/justice/ohio-steubenville-case/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

This story has become a national news story and has sparked controversy. Some people are blaming the victim (16 year old girl) others are blaming the boys who raped her. Other women have come out about this town and it's dark secrets. In the link to the article on CNN a famous singer explains how her and her mother have both been raped in this town that they grew up in. It saddens me however, that the girl is getting shammed and called names and blamed for what happened to her. Most of the victim blaming I say probably has to do with the witnesses used to get her background. Keep in mind, these are teenagers, in a high school and they used the girls 3 FORMER best friends. Kids and teenagers are mean and cruel and so of course if you question the former best friends of the victim they will do and say things to make it worse for her by saying she is a liar. This is why I don't trust the justice system and the way they get information.

Regardless of if the victim is a liar or not, the point is that she was so drunk that she seemed DEAD. Non responsive to anything, not talking or moving or anything. In a video that they boys took of her they make comments on how they think she is dead and are seemingly having fun with the idea of it. Evidence from videos and witness testimony say she was penetrated and sexually assaulted (raped) yet some people are still claiming it's her fault for getting drunk. This is bullshit. If she was drunk at age 16 then even if she had consented, it would still be rape due to the fact that she was underage drinking and that drinking impairs your judgement. But this was not the case, from the amount it was said she consumed (from witness testimony) she was wasted. Even I couldn't drink this much and still make good judgement or talk without slurring. This is what was said she had consumed:
"She drank at least four shots of vodka, two beers and some of a slushy mixed with vodka"
Again, this is all consumed by a 16 year old girl! This is another quote from the article that somewhat disturbs me that its the 'heart of the case':
At the heart of the case is the question of whether the alleged victim was too drunk to understand what was happening to her and to consent.
Too drunk? Really? She was passed out unconscious when this happened to her, how much more drunk can you get till you are dead?

Another factor that I have read from a different news article is that the former boyfriend of the victim had posted tweets about what had happened to her that leads a lot of people to believe he may have been behind this.

The people who are on the media and social sites that are calling this girl a slut and saying she deserved it and asked for it are just plain ignorant and stupid. NO girl ever deserves to be raped, I don't care if she is drunk, and wearing a mini skirt with a sports bra on! That is like saying an abused child deserved to be beaten, kicked, starved and killed because it was crying too much or couldn't learn to do something fast enough. You don't blame the children in abuse cases, you don't blame the animal in animal cruelty so why blame a rape victim for the boys who couldn't control their own sick sexual desires?
Like I stated before, even if this girl has lied in the past and even if she was drinking, she didn't deserve this. She was drinking with friends anyway, people she trusted and knew and they betrayed her by taking advantage of her when she was out. As someone who has also been stabbed in the back and raped by my ex-friends boyfriend, I understand how this shit happens. You go hang out and drinking with friends, people you think you can trust fully till they get so drunk that their true intentions come out. It's not a fun thing to realize you have been hurt in one of the worst ways possible by people you knew. I have the utmost sympathy for this girl and I hope the trial will put the boys who did this to her in jail for as long as possible.

What are your comments on this news story? What do you think happened and who do you blame?
